We enjoyed this easy garlic bread with a lasagna dinner last weekend and it was the perfect Sunday dinner. Especially because it meant I didn’t need to make dinner on Monday!
Ingredients for Easy Baguette Garlic Bread
Garlic: fresh garlic cloves make for the best garlic bread.
Room temperature Butter: your favorite salted butter (if you use unsalted butter add a pinch of salt to the butter mixture). We like to use Kerry Gold salted butter for this recipe which the kids affectionately call “fancy bread”. You can use olive oil instead of butter if you prefer.
Herbs: Fresh parsley, thyme, or rosemary all work great. A blend of whatever we have in the garden is our favorite! You can also use your favorite Italian seasoning blend instead of fresh herbs if you prefer.
Bread: a French baguette or similar bread.
Supplies for making Easy Baguette Garlic Bread:
Misen knife: for slicing the baguette rounds.
Baking Sheet: any basic rimmed baking sheet works great.
Silpats: you can also use aluminum foil or parchment paper but I like to use my silicone baking mats.
How to make the best baguette garlic bread at home:
Preheat oven to 400° F and prepare a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat, parchment paper, or aluminum foil.
Slice a baguette into 2” rounds. You can cut them straight or on the bias. Either works. Place bread onto the prepared baking sheet and set aside.
Mince garlic cloves and fresh herbs. Place the softened butter, minced garlic, and fresher herbs into a small bowl. Mix until the herbs and garlic are well combined into your softened butter.
If the butter is not soft enough to mix the spices into you can heat it in the microwave. Use fifty percent power for a few seconds to soften it more, but do not melt it fully.
Spread the garlic butter over the top of the bread.
Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until you reach your desired level of doneness. If you like soft garlic bread check it after 6 minutes. I like it the best at 8 minutes when the edges are just golden brown. If you like a crispy garlic bread go the full 10 minutes.
FAQs for making Garlic Bread
How long is garlic butter good for?
If you have leftover garlic butter you can save the remaining garlic butter in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. It will also keep rolled in parchment paper in the freezer for up to 3 months.
What type of bread works for garlic bread?
A french baguette, a loaf of Italian bread, a loaf of soft french bread, or slices of Texas toast all work great for this homemade garlic bread recipe.
How do you store leftover garlic bread?
If somehow you don’t finish the whole thing you can store leftover garlic bread wrapped in long wrap inside a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to three days. The garlic flavor does get stronger as the bread sits in the refrigerator so I don’t recommend storing it for too long unless you like a lot of garlic flavor!
How do you reheat garlic bread?
Wrap the leftover garlic bread in aluminum foil and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until heated all the way through.
